To Grow large quanities of produce on large tracts of land would make hand weeding and insect control almost impossible. Pesticides is needed to protect crops from the over growth of weeds and insects that might damage a field of vegetables in a matter of weeks or in some cases in a matter of days.
Pecticide use in the United States is regulated and governed by the Envoirnmental Protection Agency (EPA) and each each State regulates what pesticides can be applied to crops in that State. In Virginia pesticide use is regulated by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS). Much of the pesticides legal to use in California, Florida and many other large Agriculture States for vegetable production are not legal for use on Virginia vegetables.
Here at King Farms and Greenhouses we only use Pesticides to control weeds and insects with application rates lower than reccomendations set by the State of Virginia.
